AdZ Posted January 25, 2017 So I recently upgraded from a Gigabyte MOBO, i5 3570K and 12GB ram to Asus STRIX Z270H Gaming, i7 7700K and 16GB RAM. However I had to get a new PSU due to a 8pin EATX12V connector on the MOBO, my PSU only had the 4 pin. Further complications seem to be that 2 of the RAM DIMM slots are faulty (A1 and A2) so I currently have it on B1&B2. Am going to strip whole thing at weekend to check. This seems to run ok for the moment, I need to uprate my cooler before any form of overclock yet as if all the cores pushed to max it overheats. Gonna redo thermal paste too just incase. Anyway I took some pics for once so have a look below. http://imgur.com/a/yBFeQ http://valid.x86.fr/fy6ctp
Guest Kravoski Posted January 25, 2017 That cable management make me want to get violent. Pick up some sleeved cables and some combs and I'll forgive you. Stealth combs are worth their price just for sexyness. You'll need a special tool to push the pins out of their housing but it's totally worth it. Glad it's all working though!
AdZ Posted January 25, 2017 Could be worst, aka 0. Its always something I mean to get around to doing properly.
Guest Kravoski Posted January 25, 2017 I know the feeling, pain in the arse to sort it once you know everything works. You never wanna touch anything incase you break it, and if it doesn't work once you've tied everything off it's a twat.
Telfer Posted January 25, 2017 The new Mobo has faulty RAM slots?
AdZ Posted January 25, 2017 It appears so, if i put RAM into either of the 'A' slots it wont boot and the POST LED states its a RAM fault.
Telfer Posted January 26, 2017 and you have not called to return it?
tZEROm Posted January 26, 2017 Definitely start the RMA process mate, will be without a PC for a few but don't want something that's fucked. Plus you can do more #phys that way.

AdZ Posted April 8, 2017 As you can see I have lost access to one of the PCI slots! No biggie. My RAM only just fits, if I had any of these tall sticks you can get it would be a no go. Its amazing how quiet it is. Well worth it in my case. Also thats a ASUS Strix GTX 970. Quite a few of us have it, telfer and rasa are 2, its a good card but generally the 10XX is best to go for now. Also my cables are still shite, new PSU and HDD is next, ill get a modular PSU I think so I can sort the cables then.
Guest IgelQott Posted April 10, 2017 Also that is one frikkin huge CPU cooler, hope you put the backplate on! Or else... this: Get a used 980TI or a 1070 if you plan to upgrade the graphics.
AdZ Posted April 10, 2017 Oh yea the plate is on, you cant fit it without it. It seems fine and the board is of good quality too. GPU is not on the table at the moment, that prob wont be for a while. Proper cable management/PSU is next on the list tbh.
